The BBC does not allow product placments on shows and such. Ray Davies said that this was the reason behind the change from Coca Cola to cherry cola. This was said on a talk show with Greg Kinear. I'm sure it is somewhere on Youtube.

EVERY Man should have a "Lola" in his life!

Yes I seem to remember that being the reason as well. Stupid of Coca Cola really - all that free publicity!

Pardon me, but I recall reading an article in a music rag many years ago about how the Coca Cola co. was unhappy with the association with The Kinks and rock music in general and forced them to alter the lyric to "cherry" cola. Am I mistaken on this?

the original is cherry cola, they changed it to coca cola for the radio because cherry cola had an innapropriate meaning to it if you know what that was. Yea, thats why its mostly known as coca-cola.
